Possible Itinerary

Depart from Plymouth at 9 am
Your minibus driver will collect you from your hotel at 9 am. You’ll head up the A38 to the village of Buckfast, where your first stop will be the famous medieval abbey located on the fringes of Dartmoor.

Explore Buckfast Abbey
You’ll have around 1.5 hours to explore the monastery. Founded in 1018, this tranquil, spiritual haven is still home to a community of Benedictine monks. People of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome. So, feel free to wander around the fragrant gardens, enjoy morning coffee in the Grange restaurant, or just take time to pause and reflect.

Driving tour of Ashburton
Upon leaving Buckfast we’ll drive through the ancient stannary town of Ashburton located on the slopes of Dartmoor. This bustling moorland gateway blends historic buildings and modern life against a backdrop of rolling Devonshire hills.

Meet the Dartmoor ponies
Integral to the moorland wilderness, Dartmoor ponies have roamed free here since the Middle Ages.

Lunchtime at Home Farm Cafe (lunch not included)
After a busy morning, you’ll be ready to refuel. So, we’ll take you to Home Farm cafe where you can enjoy local produce and a delicious, varied menu. What will you choose?

Driving tour of Dartmoor
After a leisurely lunch, you can relax in the comfort of your minibus while we drive deeper onto the moor.
First, we’ll head for the village of Lustleigh and its traditional thatched cottages. Next, we’ll drive through winding country lanes used by local farmers as we escape onto the high moor.
Notice how the landscape changes as we head deeper into the moor. The vast imposing landscape with its isolated tors and grassy spaces that stretch for miles is breath-taking. We’ll pass the famous Warren Inn it’s said the fire has burnt continuously since 1845 and at Postbridge you’ll see the 12th century Clapper Bridge. Finally, we’ll arrive in Princetown home of Dartmoor prison. Built-in the early 1800s, this imposing building is one of the most famous prisons in the country.

Afternoon tea in Tavistock
From Princetown, you’ll take the moorland route to the market town of Tavistock. You’ll have time to explore the pannier market, walk along the river, and explore the array of independent shops. There’s also time for afternoon tea. With plenty of cafes to choose from, why not enjoy a cream tea? It’s one of the region s most famous delicacies.

Drive in the footsteps of WWII fighter planes
On the final leg of your journey, we’ll pass by Yelverton and its famous rock. We’ll also take a detour so you can see the remains of RAF Harrowbeer. This WWII fighter airfield played an important role in the war and your guide will explain its history.

Return to Plymouth 17:30 pm
Upon arrival back to Plymouth, you’ll be dropped back at your house/hotel ready to put your feet up after a memorable day out.
